Type 2 diabetes is common, costly, and preventable.
More than 37 million Americans—nearly 1 in 10—have diabetes. This number has more than doubled over the last 20 years.
In addition, more than 1 in 3 US adults has prediabetes, a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough for a diabetes diagnosis.
The National DPP lifestyle change program helps people who are at risk to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes, which lowers their risk of other serious health problems, such as heart disease and stroke.

People with prediabetes are at higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes puts people at risk for many serious health problems, including:

Fortunately, having prediabetes doesn’t guarantee a person will get type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented.

Our CDC-recognized diabetes prevention lifestyle change program can help you to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes and improve their overall health.
To participate in a CDC-recognized lifestyle change program, you’ll need to meet ALL 4 of these requirements:

Be 18 years or older.

Have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher (23 or higher if Asian American).

Not be previously diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Not be pregnant.
You’ll also need to meet 1 of these requirements (unless you’re enrolling in the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program, which has different criteria):
